These vintage watch movements come to us directly from Kiev, Ukraine. Each is a former Soviet Military watch. Not only are these pieces made from a bit of history, each sale directly helps to support and impact the lives of a Ukrainian family. The small red stones are rubies (possibly real natural stones, but may also be synthetic rubies). The pinions inside the wheels spin on the rubies for reduced friction.
